Edmund’s Bison-Sized Soundstream Merc E200
This great German machine comes with a touch of Japanese perfection – a show stopping Mercedes Benz E200 with a remarkable Wald’s Black Bison aero bodykit design imported from Japan. Appearance aside, though, what is most impressive about it is its award winning sound system.
Leading the way is Alpine’s top-end F1 Status. This legendary source unit was launched more than 10 years ago, and it was a revelation for the in-car entertainment industry since. Thereafter, Alpine upgraded the Mark I version to release the all new DVI-9990 head unit with PXI-H990 processor. Packed with all the precise top end features like time alignment, crossover networks and equalisers, this unit can single handedly turn your car’s sound system into heavenly notes. A separate DA converter from Japan was also installed for its power supply, not unlike that in high-end home theatre systems.
Audio Wave Power
Sitting at the back in the car trunk are four Audio Wave Aspire amplifiers, hand built in England. Developed by Mr Grant Hanan, the owner, founder and the maker of his own products, with more than 20 years of experience in the car audio industry. Every single piece was hand built by himself in England using high-quality materials, and sending every piece worldwide through top quality checks. Audio Wave has then been making waves, gaining trustworthy reputation as one of the most desirable amplifiers system in the world.
Each Aspire amplifier produces 166 watts of RMS power in 2 channels, and 2 units were used to power the tweeter and mid range, while another 2 units were bridged into mono to power one mid bass each.
In the centre of the boot sits a Tarantula amplifier from Soundstream, one of the most distinguished amplifier from the recent past. This mono class D amplifier cranks out 800 watts in 4 ohms, giving the sub-woofer some truly venomous power.
All the amplifiers were served by a Helix power station to ensure they received the correct amount of voltage at all times.
JM Lab released a line of speakers whose name has since entered the Hall of Fame. The FOCAL Utopia Beryllium series are recognised by the car audio market with its high-quality precision made and perfection built. Playing a part in numerous world competition, this award winning series of speakers have garnered numerous accolades and rave reviews.
With such credentials, Edmund had to have them in his car, and speakers are exclusively Beryllium. With its dome/coil optimisation, the speakers deliver an outstanding energy response that surpasses what is attainable with conventional domes. They offer unmatched extended impulse response from 1000Hz to 40 kHz ensuring neutrality.
There is a perfect link between the tweeter and woofer, thanks to the very low resonance frequency. The 80mm midrange and 165mm mid bass carry the same composite ‘W’ cones, allowing complete control of a wide range of parameters, including rigidity, lightness and damping.
Completing the set is the Utopia Be 33WX 13” subwoofer, which packs in a Multiferrite magnet. Its high sensitivity, combined with its power, guarantees deep and dynamic bass with power between 400-800 watts.
Apart from the Wald bodykit, this executive also came fitted with a set of 19” Wald Germania black polished wheels & Piled 160 muffler. The car interior was left mostly original as it is what many car audio lovers look for, but its sound quality was something completely on another level. With a setup like this, it is no wonder that it took home the highest award in a local car audio competition.
