City Sunblaze – Brian’s Yellow Honda City
There are few cars on Singapore’s roads distinctive enough that you would remember them, even many unique and heavily decorated tuned cars look quite the same with decals and vinyls all over. This bright yellow ride, though, is quite another ballgame altogether.
We have been to some few car photoshoots, but never have we seen that many cars slow down to look at this ride, and slow down so drastically indeed, in our experience. This stunning City’s owner, Brian, is clearly used to it though, fielding queries and praise from passersby with easy aplomb.
Brian’s ride is a sterling example of what a lot of passion, a love of the colour yellow, and a single, unified line of parts can do to a vehicle. Not for him, the inexpert practice of mixing and matching parts to create a single look that still bears some discrepancy here and there.
This City has been clothed completely by Arashi Aerodynamics, a garage in Johor. As their name suggests, they specialise in dressing cars up, and it isn’t every day they have had such free rein to turn a ride into a showstopper. The first thing they did was to custom-make a full body-kit to add mass and aggression to what is essentially a subcompact car.
The front face was revamped with a whole new bumper and grille, and the headlights, being the eyes of the car, were given proper ‘eyelids’ or eyebrows, at least, and also sprayed a smoked black colour to give it a frowning and menacing mien, as befits such a ride. A Mugen bonnet for the Integra DC5 was also installed to complete the front. Custom fenders and side skirts widen the sides, giving it a squatter appearance as it sits low.
The rear features yet more transformation, with a new Arashi bumper and Evo IX spoiler, and most outrageously, a boot monitor setup. Even before opening the boot, you can already watch whatever’s playing inside Brian’s car thanks to the line of 3.5′ monitors and single 7′ monitor across the boot cover. And there are plenty more monitors inside his car, too.
To emphasise the fact that his car is no ordinary ride, Brian has given his car the full scissor-door treatment, not just in front, imported from Japan, but also for his rear doors, courtesy of America. The entire City rides low thanks to Air Bomber air suspensions imported from Japan, allowing his ride to barely skim the ground when showing it off to admirers at competitions.
Yellow Is The New Black
Brian loves the colour yellow. It is completely self-evident. After doing up his car’s exterior body, he had the entire ride custom-sprayed in Y-52P Pearl Yellow, a colour normally associated with the nimble Honda S2000 coupe, exuding energy, personality and confidence. On top of the paintwork was slapped a huge custom American-inspired graffiti street-style body sticker, marching along the sides of the car. The purple sets off the yellow perfectly.
To complement his new massive showy body, his car had to have equally big feet, so 20′ Seiken rims were bolted on, then sprayed on with the same Y-52P yellow as the rest of the car to keep the all-yellow theme going.
If you are already experiencing sensory overload, wait till you look inside his car, where the all-yellow design has been taken further still. Arashi Aerodynamics has done far more on the interior, with their own custom dashboard, iPad holder, steering wheel cover, Mugen-style rear mirror cover, and console, all in Y-52P.
All this, though, can still be called ‘ordinary’ colour-coordinated modification until you look at the back, and throw every attempt to classify this car out of the window. The entire back seat is, simply put, a fish tank.
The rear seats have been done away with, replaced with lighted ICE-installation-style LED tunnels set into flat yellow leather-covers surfaces, with a bubbling water feature behind more acrylic making up the backrest. The boldness of this design is simply staggering. The visual distraction of the interior is added on to further by more Arashi monitors set into the door panels both in front and behind.
Enough? Absolutely not. There’s still what lies in the boot – Brian’s own in-car entertainment system, garishly and lavishly decorated with yet another huge LED tunnel and ten more monitors set into the floor of his boot. Into this City has been fitted four CDT 6.5′ midbasses and two CDT tweeter-midrange sets from America, two 4-channel amplifiers and one mono-block 1800W amp, all from Performance, a Thai ICE maker.
Brian controls all this from the comfort of his driver’s seat with the Pioneer AVH-P4350DVD head unit.
Two massive 12′ Performance double-coil woofers with alluring blue lighting also fill the boot with a rotating bling-bling chrome grilles.
This City is a real styling masterpiece, so it’s no surprise that it netted its owner second place in the Auto Styling competition – no small feat considering the field of competition, all of whom have been lavishly done up, and tuned up. Brian’s ride will be blazing its way through the streets for many years yet keep an eye out for this blazing sun on wheels.
