Celebrating 50 Years of Italdesign with Nissan GT-R50 @ Goodwood Festival of Speed
Both the Nissan GT-R and the Italdesign celebrate their 50th anniversaries this year, and to commemorate the pair of milestones, the Italian coach builder sculpts a new image of the Japanese performance icon. While we have seen the special model in some official photos, the Goodwood Festival of Speed has provided the opportunity to see the GT-R50 in the real world and on the move.
The GT-R50 is unique for now, and the Goodwood driver makes sure he does not damage it. Goodwood watches the coupe at only 57 mph, but the car is able to go much faster. Preserves the 3.8-liter V6 biturbo of the GT-R but the power increases to 710 bhp and 775 Nm of torque using turbochargers from the GT3 race car, larger intercoolers, high-flow piston jets, revised camshaft profiles And higher flow fuel injectors.
A reinforced six-speed gearbox, stronger differentials and high-strength drive shafts ensure that the large increase in power does not ruin the reliability of the machine.
The duty of Italdesign is to create the new exterior that makes the GT-R look ready for the future. On the nose, there is a prominent part of gold that draws attention to the front. A group of shots in the nose and hood create an aggressive aesthetic as well. The roof is 54 millimeters lower which gives the rear part an even clearer appearance.
The rear part receives the most prominent revision where there is now a U-shaped window with golden gondolas flanking it. Four circular taillights with hollow centres emerge from the tail.
The photos of the cabin show that Italdesign makes the rare decision to remove the infotainment screen, and replaces the analog instruments with the screen type digital that you would find in a racing car. The designers also add more carbon fibre and Alcantara than in the GT-R Nismo, which forms the basis for the GT-R50.
Italdesign and Nissan will build 50 or less examples of the GT-R50, but they will not be cheap at a price of 900,000 euros (SGD1.42 million at current prices). The people of Italdesign will be in charge of the real assembly and will work with the clients to adapt the finishes to the preferences of the buyer.
